Social Campaign - Black History Month
Rār specializes in creating authentic marketing and public relations strategies, focusing on multicultural communities. For this project, we were tasked with creating an evergreen social campaign for heritage months. The goal; to showcase local entrepreneurs and community leaders while celebrating cultural history through out the year.
We took inspiration from Frederick Douglass. Civil rights activist and leader, Douglas was the most photographed American of the 19th century. His legacy of owning his image to redefine Black identity, was our inspiration for the series. Douglass rejected exaggerated stereotypes and depictions of Black people in media, so he used his own self portrait to assert his humanity to counter them. Drawing on this, we utilized beautiful, powerful black and white portraits against a black background to focus the eye on the subject’s strength, beauty, and depth.

social Campaign - womens History Month
For Women’s History Month, we wanted to expand on our approach from Black History Month by avoiding a patriarchal lens and instead showcasing diverse representations of women. We decided early in the process to chose nontraditional activities, varied age ranges, and differing body types, paired with an editorial treatment reminiscent of a magazine cover.
To challenge societal stereotypes, we placed each subject inside a box, symbolizing societal expectations, and had them break out of it—visually representing freedom from labels. The tagline “Don’t Label Me,” inspired by Richard-Abraham Rugnao, the President of rār, reinforced this message of empowerment and individuality.
